The business case
On a 100 kWp roof, the package costs less than the dust.
A 100 kWp roof at about 1,600 kWh per kWp produces roughly 160,000 kWh a year. A 4% soiling loss is about 6,400 kWh, which is €1,600 to €1,920 a year at €0.25 to €0.30 per kWh. PV Shield Plus on that roof is €1,400 a year with the clean included. It costs less than the soiling loss alone, before counting anything a fault would have cost.
Assumptions
- 1,600 kWh per kWp per year, an indicative Cyprus figure for a fixed-tilt roof.
- 4% soiling loss averaged over the year.
- €0.25 to €0.30 per kWh, the value of a kWh you would otherwise buy.
